Innersource - Mindful
Journaling App

Innersource is a self-care app designed to help users understand the impact of their daily thoughts and emotions on their well-being.

A smart algorithm helps you manage your mood and cope with tough times. Our team saw a need for a tool that could help people be happier during the pandemic (Covid-19).

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Many people dealing with emotional struggles feel isolated and unsupported. While some use diaries or apps to express their thoughts, they need a more interactive solution that provides real-time support and encouragement.

CHALLENGE

Our mission was to create a better, more supportive diary experience –one that not only helps users manage mental health challenges like depression or bipolar disorder but also adds positivity and joy to their daily lives.

COMPETITOR ANALYSIS

I analyzed competitors in the market by looking at their design, user experience paths, main features, profitability, retention rates, and overall positioning to understand their strengths and weaknesses.

Competitors

Reflectly is a journal that uses artificial intelligence to help you organize and make sense of your everyday thoughts and problems. Note that the app is simple, beautiful. It lacks detailed analytics and few activities.

Daylio - allows you to track your mood and daily activities. Can show trends of the day, month, and year. Poorly readable visuals and analytics

Jour - meditation + mood journal, which gives you one daily task for the day and unlimited notes during the day. Compared to competitors has pleasant visual communication, the opportunity to listen to relaxing stories.

Stoic - app with the philosophy of Stoicism, helps you reflect through journaling, meditation, and breathing exercises. Allows you to select quotes from Stoicism, Buddhism, Taoism, and Catholicism.

Search for ideas

The vision was to go beyond a simple journal app, delivering a personalized experience where users could rely on
a virtual assistant to support their needs and goals

During a brainstorming session with the entire team, the focus was to creating a character that inspires users to connect with themselves on a deeper level.
The result? A charming little character, always reaching out with a raised hand, ready to assist. It’s designed to make users feel supported and encouraged every step of the way.

Search for ideas

I find wireframing is a great way to get ideas across and work with others

By understanding what motivates users, I can clearly and efficiently share ideas with my team in a way that’s easy to grasp.
I ran a usability test with diary app users—both digital and paper-based—to check how well our solution worked. Most participants (4 out of 5) highlighted similar usability problems and pointed out confusion in the flow. I presented these observations to the team, and we made the necessary adjustments.

Solution

The onboarding process that provides two benefits

During registration, we customize the application for the user, customize it.

Onboarding

The user starts with a brief diary entry, skipping detailed explanations. To help them get comfortable, we'll guide them step by step through the main features.

Solution

The main screen of the app greets you with simplicity and charm

A dynamic day/night animation in the top-left corner mirrors the current time.At the center, a circular element serves as a window into your notes, with an option to favorite the most important ones. No notes yet? Relaxing illustrations keep the space inviting. The calendar view is your time-travel tool, letting you browse past days or jump straight to today.

SOLUTION

Engaging story for deeper reflections

Full story creation flow with the ability to create activities. Triggered and open-ended questions to let the user uncover their thoughts and share personal things with the diary. Users have become very fond of Bonus Questions for their personality and openness.

Solution

The statistics screen gives users a clear view of how their mood changes over time and what influences it

This feature was developed in response to valuable feedback from our users. The streak feature, especially, has proven to be a great motivator for users to stay active in the app.

Solution

Relax and boost your emotional well-being in a peaceful space with therapeutic activities, drawing, soothing sounds, and appreciation

Marketing side

I collaborated with the marketing team to create engaging materials for company advertisements and brainstorm creative marketing ideas

Additionally, I also supported A/B testing of app store screens for both Android and iOS to improve user engagement.

Outcome

I worked on the Innersource for seven months and collaborated closely with a product manager, engineers, and marketers to define how the app should look.
I was responsible for design in general, from polishing an idea to conducting competitor and user research, interviews, usability testings, prototyping, and of course implementation of those concepts in Figma.
Once the app launched, I introduced a feedback form to connect with users. Their insights gave us a clearer direction for future updates and improvements.
